The Email Discussion Group is an e-mail list of audio professionals from around the world. It serves to provide a forum to exchange audio-related ideas and information. Here is how it works:
1. You must be a member of SynAudCon and then subscribe to the Email Discussion Group. The list membership is moderated which means that your subscription must be approved by SynAudCon.
2. There are two versions of the Email Discussion Group available.
- The "standard" version allows you to receive all individual messages posted to the list.
- The "digest" version sends you one message each day which is a summary of all messages for the previous 24 hours. This is ideal for those who travel or just don't want to receive a lot of email every day.
Be sure to inform SynAudCon which version you want to subscribe to, otherwise we will subscribe you to the "standard" version.
3. There is an optional Forum interface to the discussion group, available from the website. We work to keep the Forum messages properly sorted and categorized to improve their usefulness to you.
4. Once on the Email Discussion Group, you will receive messages from other list members daily. To post a message to the list, simply address it to sac@list.synaudcon.com and the entire list will receive it. Include your name and email address with all posts and replies. You may optionally post or reply to messages through the Forum interface.
5. The content of the email messages is the property of the sender. You may not quote, post or forward messages without the express consent of the author.
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES WHEN PARTICIPATING IN THE EMAIL DISCUSSION GROUP
- All formatting and attachments are stripped from messages sent to sac@list.synaudcon.com.
- Do NOT quote the entire original message when replying to the Email Discussion Group. You can quote portions of the message to clarify your response.
- Do NOT send attachments to the Email Discussion Group.
- Do NOT change the name of a Email Discussion Group thread. Simply hit the "Reply to:" button and LEAVE THE NAME UNCHANGED.
- To post a question, create a NEW email message with an appropriate subject line. Do not reply to an existing message and change the subject line to start a new thread.
- To reply to a message, select "Reply to:" in your email software. This will insert the address of the list in the "To:" field. If you wish to reply to the individual who sent the message, you must enter their address manually. We strongly encourage that you reply to the entire list so that all can benefit from your comments. DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF THE THREAD THAT YOU ARE RESPONDING TO!! (we can't stress this enough).
- Please DO NOT advertise via the email discussion group.
General Etiquette for Using the Email Discussion Group:
- Keep your messages concise and to the point.
- Keep your replies concise and to the point.
- Avoid unnecessary comments that create unnecessary e-mail traffic.
- Ask reasonable questions. Don't use the list to find information that you could find from an industry directory, etc.
- Don't try to use the Email Discussion Group as a substitute for a qualified consultant or contractor.
Examples of poor messages:
"Does anyone know Joe Schmuck's email address?" This is not a source for that kind of information....
"I seem to be having a problem with RF getting into my system." The question is vague and beyond the scope of an email exchange.
Undeliverable Messages:
If we get "undeliverable" messages back from your mail server for more than 24 hours, your address will be deleted from the list. This is also true for "mailbox full" messages. It is important that you inform us of any email address changes, etc. If you go for a period of 48 hours without receiving any messages, your address was probably deleted. This is necessary due to the glut of returned messages that we get from mail servers that keep trying to deliver email to invalid addresses. If you have cleared up the problem, you may re-submit your address to SynAudCon for subscription to the list.
That covers it. I hope you enjoy our SAC Email Discussion Group and benefit from it as much as I have.
